LEW STONE TAKES OVER FROM FOX
Joe Crossman and Lew Davis to join the band at the Monseigneur !

An item of news that has staggered the entire profession is that Roy Fox is leaving the Monseigneur at the end of the month and Lew Stone is taking his place. Roy Fox's band, which has been the most successful in recent years and getting better every day, is almost an institution. However, these things will happen, and Roy Fox is definitely leaving. Lew Stone was asked by the management of the Monseigneur to form a band and take over the duties of M.D., which he accepted.
It must be made quite clear that Lew is not taking over Roy Fox's band, but forming one of his own and the fact that, with the exception of Sid Buckman, the orchestra will consist of the old Fox unit is simply because all members of the band requested him to take them on, which he was naturally only too pleased to do. In this way the band we have all learned to admire has been saved practically in its entirety.
Lew has engaged two extra men, namely, Joe Crossman from Ambrose's band and Lew Davis from the Savoy Orpheans. These star musicians have been included in the personnel not simply because he wants four saxophones and four brass, but because these two players possess certain qualities of which he can make good use. In other words, if he could not have Joe Crossman and Lew Davis, the sections would have remained as before, and no other two men would have been engaged. AIf Noakes, incidentally, replaces Sid Buckman.
The band will be run on lines different from any other orchestra in London, and there will be no conductor standing up in front.
This certainly looks like being an amazing band, and the entire musical world is awaiting the first broadcast.
