The NJA is a unique national research and information centre available to jazz enthusiasts, students and the general public. It is well stocked with rare books, discographies, periodicals, photographs and memorabilia.
The collection has an emphasis on British material but foreign works, particularly American,
are also collected. It has substantial runs of all major
jazz magazines past and present including Cadence, Downbeat, Jazz Journal,
Jazz News, Melody Maker, Memory Lane, Mississippi Rag and Wire.
Current publications are purchased and the Archive acts as a repository,
to safeguard scarce and older materiaL, by accepting donations and bequests.
The materials are for use on the premises. (Note: the Archive is not a repository for recorded music, sheet music, band parts).
Requests for services and information can be made in person, by telephone or by post. Enquiries are answered by specialist staff. Telephone: 020 8502 0181.
