Music Knowledge
I have built up my knowledge of Vintage Popular Music over the last 25 years. During that time I have been particularly indebted to the
'Memory Lane' magazine and the discographies written by Brian Rust and Sandy Forbes, constantly referring to them and all the other magazines and books listed on my webpages.
Compuserve had an excellent publishing system and help forums, but the website size was limited to 5 Mb so I joined Demon (March '99) and we now have 20 Mb, which isn't much these days, but I've decideed to keep the Demoin site and store most of the website images and soundclips on one of my own domains
'Instant HTML' by Steve Wright (no relation), Wrox Press Ltd. 1996. This book gave me a step-by-step guide to preparing a REAL web page, with pictures, tables, frames.
Some of the photo images used on this website were kindly donated by collectors on the Internet:
In particular I must mention:
My early soundclips were recorded using WinDat, which was ready-installed on my Packard Bell 9002 (purchased 1996), more recently I have simply used Windows Sound Recorder and Audacity software and my PC was built by a friend.
The music is mainly from my own 78 collection. Sometimes I used a wind-up Columbia and steel needles, stuck the microphone in under the turntable! With the new PC I've used a USB connector from my record decks. Most soundclips are about 30secs which take only a few seconds to open if you have a 2MHz processor.
The Jack Jackson and Sam Browne excerpts were recorded from the Saville CD CDSVL217, 'Hot Coffee' Rare Jazz Moments Played By British Dance Bands, released in 1990.
Most of the infomation is form VJM Magazine
